Huron may be a small town surrounded by wide open grasslands, but it has larger-than-life attractions. Along Highway 14, don’t miss the World’s Largest Pheasant, a 28-foot, 22-ton statue that alludes to the area’s excellent pheasant hunting.
The 190-acre South Dakota State Fairgrounds hosts the annual South Dakota State Fair, livestock and equestrian events at the Dakota Events CompleX (DEX), and car races at the Dakota State Fair Speedway. Meanwhile, Splash Central Waterpark boasts water slides, pools, a lazy river and a water coaster for all ages to get a thrill.
For slower-paced pleasures, go for a stroll or bring a picnic to Memorial Park on the James River or Ravine Park on Ravine Park Lake.

Get ready for the South Dakota State Fair. Held in September each year, the five-day fair features carnival rides, championship rodeo events, antique tractor and classic car shows and nationally touring entertainment. You can also enjoy a beer garden and wine pavilion onsite – and of course, craveable fair food. Wheel Jam is the ultimate car, truck and motorcycle festival. Gear up for four days of stock car races, poker runs, show n’ shines, biker games, burnout competitions, light shows and more at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. Sample all the barbecue and chili you can eat at the South Dakota BBQ Championships. Held at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds during the annual Wheel Jam, this Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned event features some of the best pit masters in the nation, as well as amateur people’s choice competitions for barbecue & chili. Hunters will love the Ringneck Festival and Bird Dog Challenge. Thirty teams from around the nation will face off in hunting competitions, including a competitive pheasant hunt and a bird dog challenge.
