Watertown

Despite being a small town of about 20,000 people, Watertown is plentiful in culture and attractions.

For the arts, explore more than 150 oil paintings by wildlife artist Terry Redlin at The Redlin Art Center, and watch live performances by the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra at The Goss Opera House. Bramble Park Zoo is home to more than 800 animals, perfect for an outing with kids. History buffs won’t want to miss Codington County Heritage Museum and the historic Mellette House.

For boating, fishing and camping, visit Sandy Shore Lake Recreation Area on Lake Kampeska and Pelican Lake Recreation Area on Pelican Lake.

Taste the flavor at the family-friendly Cookin’ on Kampeska at Stokes-Thomas City Park and Campground. You and your crew can enjoy three days of cooking competitions, where you can sample excellent barbecue, pork and South Dakota favorite — chislic. Plus, there’s plenty of entertainment, including water shows, live music, a bean bag toss tournament and wine, brew & spirit tastings. The kiddos will adore Zoo Boo at Bramble Park Zoo. Stop by spook-tacular booths, view the animals and go trick-or-treating throughout the zoo. If you’re in town for the holidays, enjoy Watertown’s ultimate holiday extravaganza, the Downtown Holiday Lighted Parade. Grab a lawn chair and post up along Kemp Avenue to see a parade of holiday-themed floats and decorations.
