The Black Hills Playhouse kicks off the summer season with three performances by retro-rockers, DD & The Fayrohs. Shows are Friday June 2 at 7:30pm and Saturday June 3 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. Opening the concerts are area favorites, Hank Harris and Jami Lynn.
DD & The Fayrohs were selected for the fundraiser to reflect the 2017 Playhouse season of light-hearted, high-energy fun.
Beginning in 1983, DD & The Fayrohs reached an almost legendary status in the Western South Dakota and the surrounding states with the generation of people who invented rock and roll. That initial groundswell of support produced standing room only concerts that continued through the eighties, nineties and into the new millennium.
DD & The Fayrohs were inducted into the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. In a business where bands change musicians on a regular basis, DD & The Fayrohs has kept the core group together for more than three decades. Darla Drew, lead vocals, Don Lerdal, guitar and vocals, and Tom Sitzler drummer and vocals were on board for the first practice. Hank Harris, bass guitar and vocals, with only 30 years as a Fayroh is still considered the new guy.
Music from the doowop of the 50s, girl group songs from the sixties, and some fresh takes on old favorites are in store for audiences. Hank Harris and Jami Lynn specialize in acoustic music featuring guitar and banjo on traditional and new Americana.
The concerts series is a fundraiser for the Black Hills Playhouse. Tickets are available at www.blackhillsplayhouse.com or call 605-255-4141.
