The Purple Pie Place in Custer is a fixture for the summer and fall, offering the best homemade pies in the Black Hills. They serve hundreds of slices of pie a week. The homemade delights are also available in a take-home whole-pie version. It's not just pies that they serve, they also have fresh sandwiches, paninis, salads, soups, ice cream and a kids menu. The pie and ice cream parlor is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday through Saturday. (Closed during the winter months.)

In a spot suggested by Frank Lloyd Wright, the hotel and cabins sit in a hillside forest of pine and spruce, in harmony with the rugged landscape. All overlook the sloping hills and the beauty of Sylvan Lake. The lodge’s double-peaked wooden ceiling, hardwood floors and stone fireplace lend an air of luxury that complements the view. Baker’s Bakery & Cafe in Custer is a modern day “Hash House” that serves the #1 breakfast in South Dakota - according to Everyday with Rachel Ray Magazine (March 2014 issue). We have a full breakfast and lunch menu as well as fresh pastries, donuts and espresso bar. Everything is served on or with homemade bread. Beer and wine are also available. There are three dining rooms that seat approximately 100 people. We are open daily, 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Here at the Buglin' Bull in downtown Custer, we offer a full menu with a large variety of dishes for the entire family. Sandwiches, steaks, prime rib and seafood entrees are available all day long and so are buffalo and elk burgers. Salads and wraps are also available, along with our homemade pizza. Our full bar offers a large variety of beer, wine and cocktails. Everything on the menu is available to go, including beer and wine. Our hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.

Legion Lake Lodge sits directly on the water's edge and features 26 cabins nestled in the surrounding forest (some with kitchens). The Centennial Trail is easily accessible. There is a convenience store to purchase fishing licenses and supplies, a playground, swimming and a hiking trail surrounds the lake. There is nothing fussy about eating at Legion Lake. Our menu features homestyle recipes like burgers and fries and homemade apple pie that you can enjoy on the deck, if the weather is nice.

Known as the Summer White House, the historic State Game Lodge has 101 units, including cabins (the largest sleeps 28) and modern and historical hotel rooms. We offer Buffalo Jeep Tours, Chuckwagon Cookouts, trail rides, hiking, fishing and endless possible wildlife encounters within the 71,000-acre park. Our elegant restaurant features local game and casual breakfast and lunch dining with a more formal ambiance for dinner. It is open seven days per week, end of April through the end of October.

Sage Creek Grille in Custer has long supported the local food movement when possible and strives to know the sourcing of the food it prepares fresh daily. We source our buffalo from West River, the seafood is wild and, when the herbs are growing, we use them fresh. The menu changes with the seasons and with the different talent that arrives each year to prepare the food we serve. Join us for lunch 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, or dinner 5-8 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
