Craving some winter fun? The rush of descent, the squeals of delight, the chance to get out of the house — it’s all part of why sledding or tubing down a snow-covered hill is a timeless tradition in South Dakota! Check out some of our favorite spots to zoom through — and maybe catch — some winter air.

1. Ski Hill, Wessington Springs
Sledders can call to obtain (for free) a key for the park's historic Rube Goldberg ski lift. Flip the switch, activate the ski lift, and safely slide back up the hill after every run.

2. Great Bear Recreation Park, Sioux Falls
200+ acres of slopes and nature trails await you at Great Bear. Ski, snowboard, tube, and snowshoe to discover winter magic & excitement in Sioux Falls.

3. Baird Park, Aberdeen
Make some runs down this nearly 30-foot hill in northeast South Dakota before celebrating with donuts at Kessler's.

4. Tuthill Park, Sioux Falls
Sled this huge hill, enjoy the ice skating rink, and get ready for more in the onsite warming house.

5. Hilger's Gulch, Pierre
The 1.1-mile walking trail keeps people happy year-round, but it's the sledding hill that gets the most attention as soon as the snow falls.

6. Pageant Hill, Custer
Take some amazing sledding runs on one of the top sledding spots in all of the Black Hills.
