Independence Day at Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore National Memorial, also known as “The Shrine of Democracy,” celebrates Independence Day for three days, July 2-4. For 2026, there will be a fireworks display the evening of Friday, July 3. Admission on July 3 is by ticket only. The Memorial is open to the general public on July 2 and July 4. On Thursday, a full day of interpretive programming will conclude with a patriotic musical performance by the U.S. Air Force Academy Band.
