CURRENTLY CLOSED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC - DOING TOURS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY - Located in the community of St. Franics, the Buechel Memorial Lakota Museum’s collection of 2,000+ artifacts from the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota honors the traditions, culture, and history of the Lakota. The Museum is open to the public each year from Memorial Day (late May) through Labor Day (early September), and provides a wealth of information on the history and culture of the Lakota people. It is an important resource for historians, ethnographers, anthropologists, and artists. Apart from the over two thousand items in the ethnographic collection, the museum boasts an extensive photographic collection that exceeds 42,000 items. Admission is free, however, a $5 suggested donation is welcome.
