The Fort Meade Recreation Area just east of Sturgis includes the Fort Meade Cavalry Post, the Old Fort Meade Cavalry Museum, the Fort Meade Post Cemetery and the Centennial Trail. It also adjoins the Black Hills National Cemetery and Bear Butte State Park. The area includes approximately 6,700 acres of forest and grasslands, and offers options for activities such as biking, hiking, camping, picnicking, wildlife viewing, fishing and hunting. The Fort Meade Recreation Area is a unit of the U.S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Land Management.
