Making Movies is the Latin GRAMMY–nominated group led by Enrique Chi — born in Santiago, Panamá, and raised in the American Midwest — forging a sound guided by tradition, yet unmistakably its own. Live performances are anchored in the rich rhythmic traditions of Panamá and centered on Chi’s performance on the mejorana, a rare Panamanian folkloric instrument, woven into a modern psychedelic context and pushed through distortion and reverb. Experience Making Movies when they take to the Levitt stage in Sioux Falls on September 3. This free concert is one of 50 being held at the state-of-the-art Levitt Shell in Falls Park West. During 2026, the free concerts run June 4 through September 12, usually on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Levitt at the Falls 2026: Making Movies

Head to Huron over Labor Day weekend for the South Dakota State Fair! During five days in early September, enjoy award-winning entertainers, thrilling carnival rides, special events and six stages of free entertainment. Take in a grandstand show and car races. Experience South Dakota's largest carnival midway. See the state 4-H and FFA exhibits and championships, including livestock and animal shows. Fun for the whole family! Daily gate admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 6-15). Children ages five and younger are free. Family and weekly passes are also available. Gate hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday.

1st Fridays on Main in Mitchell is held the first Friday of each month, 5-9 p.m., May through September (May 1, June 5, July 3, August 6, and September 4, 2026). Event goers will enjoy live music, food trucks, vendors, activities and games for both adults and children. This free event is held around the Corn Palace Plaza in downtown Mitchell, corner of 6th Avenue & Main Street. (August 6 is a Thursday and is the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party. Hours are 5-10 p.m.)

Set against the beauty of downtown Sioux Falls, the LifeLight Festival is a dynamic, free event that brings together people of all ages for a powerful celebration of faith, music, and community. This high-powered Chicago indie rock quintet is made up of lead singer Ralph Porter, who joined forces with guitarist Jaden Cone, drummer Ben Kremer, and Ax and The Hatchetmen members, Sal Defilippis and Hunter Olshefke. This group has become a rising name in the Midwest indie scene. With striking riffs and catchy vocals, The Back Alley gives audiences something to dance about.
