On August 2, 1876, American law enforcement officer and folk hero, James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok, met his maker in Deadwood, Dakota Territory. He was shot in the back by Jack McCall while playing a game of poker in Saloon #10 and later laid to rest at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Today, Deadwood still honors and pays homage to this great figure of the American West.
