Giddy up!
Yeehaw!

Laura Ingalls Wilder
Her legendary "Little House on the Prairie" books inspired a television show and generations of readers. Get the full Laura experience in De Smet, where you can see historic homes, the original homestead, and plenty of living history.

Fort Sisseton
This 1864 frontier army outpost still has 14 of the original buildings intact, allowing visitors a unique walk through history. Catch the Fort Sisseton Historical Festival each June for classic firearm demonstrations, historic re-enactors, an arts & crafts show, and authentic music.

Rodeo
For more than a century, rodeo has been an integral part of South Dakota, producing legends like Casey Tibbs, Billy Etbauer, Lisa Lockhart, and more. Cowboys and cowgirls compete across the state every year, so you have plenty of chances to watch these amazing performers in action.

Cowboy History
With such a rich rural history, it's hard not to find a South Dakota museum without a tribute to the cowboy lifestyle. Top spots include the High Plains Western Heritage Center in Spearfish, the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum in Brookings, and a double-shot of history at the Verendrye Museum and Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center in Fort Pierre.
