The Pasque Flower
A sure sign of spring
The days are longer, the winds are warmer and wildflowers are beginning to peek through the remaining snow. One of the first to show itself is the pasque, South Dakota's state flower. It usually blooms from late March to early June. Its small, purple flowers emerge close to the ground and are most often found on undisturbed hillsides throughout the state, including in the Black Hills National Forest and Wind Cave National Park.
