The Mellette House was built by the first governor of South Dakota, and you can see the family’s original furnishings, portraits and eclectic heirlooms around the home. A massive circular staircase winds through the first, second and third floors, making any visitor feel like royalty.

The Codington County Heritage Museum, located in the former historic Carnegie Library building, keeps the city’s history alive with preserved maps, vintage photographs, original documents and exhibits that catch the eyes of young and old.

Known as “America’s Most Popular Artist,” Terry Redlin was born and raised in Watertown. You can take in his life’s work for free at the Redlin Art Center.
