Motorcyclists can't stay away from the Black Hills, returning year after year to cruise the one-of-a-kind byway drives like those found in the South Dakota Scenic Drives Guide. But there's one time of year when things get truly revved up. Every August, hundreds of thousands of riders hit the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the biggest two-wheeled party in the world. Set in the stunning Black Hills, it’s a spectacle filled with roaring motorcycles performing stunts and burnouts, live rock, metal and country concerts, custom bikes and communal camaraderie.

Join host Brian Thacker as he takes in the sights and music of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, rides Main Street on a Fat Boy Harley-Davidson, meets a 100-year-old rider, and hits the road out to Bear Butte State Park to learn about its spiritual significance to the Lakota people.

You'll hear from:

  • Sturgis Buffalo Chip founder Rod “Woody” Woodruff
  • Photographer Michael Lichter
  • Sturgis veteran Milton “Mac” McKinney
  • Centenarian rider Gloria Struck
  • Sturgis hall-of-famer Cris Sommer-Simmons
