The National Field Archery Association is hosting the Annual First Dakota Classic Archery Tournament in Yankton. The First Dakota Classic is an indoor distance tournament and offers head-to-head competition after the qualification rounds. This challenging and unique tournament features archers from around the world—including professionals and Olympians—who travel to Yankton to compete in this three-day competition. Every 4th of July, the central South Dakota community of Fort Pierre hosts two days of activities to celebrate our nation's independence. On July 3, there is a rodeo performance at 7 p.m. On July 4, there is a parade at 10 a.m., a second rodeo performance at 7 p.m., and a fireworks show following the rodeo. It’s our Independence Celebration taking place 4th of July weekend at Outlaw Square in Deadwood. On Saturday, July 5, join us for a concert with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. The owner of the soaring voice that propelled Starship through the 80s, Mickey's soulful and compelling vocals established him as one of Rock Music’s most recognizable stars. One can expect to hear hits from Starship and Jefferson Starships, as well as a few selections from Jefferson Airplane as a nod to both bands' beginnings. The concert takes place from 8-10 p.m. Admission is free.
