North Country Fiber Fair
The Annual North Country Fiber Fair will be held at the Codington County Extension Complex in Watertown. Visit the website for class and vendor information as well as a complete schedule. Vendor hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday. There are free demonstrations and classes held throughout the event, as well as a fiber animal barn. For more than 50 years, Prairie Repertory Theatre has been producing terrific summer theatre in eastern South Dakota. Whether you are already a member of our growing summer family or planning to join us for the first time, we invite you to experience the fun and enjoyment of live theatre. All shows are performed at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings. For 2025, there are four shows planned starting with Grease (June 11-14), followed by Romeo and Juliet (June 18-21), Out of Order (June 25-28) and concluding with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (July 9-12 and 16-19). The RiverRat Run 1/2 marathon, 10k and 5k are timed races starting at Gavins Point Recreation Area west of Yankton and proceeding out along the Lewis and Clark Campground and Gavins Point Trails and Day use Area. These free Saturday night concerts are held at the Centennial Park (except for July 5 which will be at the Mueller Center). Performances will begin at 6 p.m. and will last roughly until 9 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and plan to spend a fun evening listening to some great music. Join us as we celebrate this historic moment in history at Sanford Underground Research Facility’s free science festival and biggest event of the year, Neutrino Day. Join us for hoist room and garden tours, science activities and exhibits for all ages, live video chats with scientists underground, and engaging talks about the research happening beneath your feet. Events take place at the SURF Education & Outreach Building, the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center, Historic Homestake Opera House and the Handley Recreation Center. Each year on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, the Friends of the Hot Springs Public Library hosts the Southern Hills Triathlon. The race is held at Angostura State Recreation Area south of Hot Springs off US Highway 385. Medals are given to all youth and adult finishers. First Place Medals are given for adult age groups and First Place Overall Medals are given for each event. Admission: Free for spectators. Schmeckfest is an annual festival held in the southeastern South Dakota town of Freeman. The gathering uses food, art and a celebration of community to honor the history of Germans that emigrated from Russia. Held on the campus of the Freeman Academy, it’s been a fundraiser for the school every spring since 1959. The ethnic German meal, served family-style, and the community musical take place over two days each spring, in March or April. The Black Hills Photo Shootout brings photographers from across the country together in the Black Hills of South Dakota for photography, education, sightseeing, camaraderie, and fun.
