While the actual center of the nation is located on private property, the Geographic Center of the Nation Monument is located in Belle Fourche in western South Dakota. The National Geodetic Survey designated Belle Fourche as the town closest to the actual site and the monument was placed there. The 21-foot diameter monument is located next to the Center of the Nation Visitor Center and the Tri-State Museum and is accessible year-round.
The premier trail within the South Dakota State Park system, this 109-mile jewel stretches the length of the Black Hills. It follows an abandoned railroad bed, and climbs gently into jagged cliffs and pine forests. The Mickelson Trail has a crushed limestone surface and wide path. It tops out at 6,100 feet but rarely exceeds a 4-percent grade (making it perfect for leisure riders). Trestle bridges and railroad tunnels add to the charm of the trail. George's is best known for its authentic Greek dishes like gyros, baklava and pasta. Most of these items are served daily on the buffet. The Greek options are made fresh and pack a flavorful punch. Delivery and carry out are also available. We are open seven days per week and our hours are 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 4-9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.-2 a.m., Friday; 11 a.m.-2 a.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday.
Ghost Canyon Getaway is a place to unwind, enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills, and still be close to the tourist attraction. We are located near Hermosa in the southern Black Hills, approximately four miles down a well-maintained gravel road. We have four units - one is a separate cabin and the other three are located in the same building. Outside, There is a fire-pit, picnic table, loungers and games available, including a basketball hoop. Our location creates a private, intimate setting that allows you to enjoy the tourist’s sights, shopping, attractions, local lakes and hiking and then, when you are ready to get away from it all, you can retreat to the Getaway. We have 19 acres of rolling pastures surrounded by tree covered hills. Guided trail rides are available on-site, offered by J & F Tails and Trails. Enjoy the Black Hills on horseback.
Gist Wine Shop in downtown Sioux Falls is South Dakota’s first boutique wine shop focused on naturally fermented wines. We are dedicated to connecting people to the producers and sharing the stories behind each bottle of wine, craft beer, and regional cider on the shelf. While shopping, you can also enjoy a glass of wine from our rotating glass pour menu and pick up other specialty snacks. Our hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and 12-6 p.m., Sunday.
Incorporated in 1962, the Glacial Lakes and Prairies Tourism Association's mission is to promote the visitor industry in northeastern South Dakota, contributing to the region's economic viability. Our purpose is to promote tourism in the 20 counties found in the northeastern part of the state by working together with the SD Department of Tourism and other regional associations. Our office in Watertown is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Glacial Lakes Distillery was started by three guys from Watertown who have a passion for creating high-quality spirits. We are inspired by a simpler time when quality meant something and beautiful, handmade wooden boats raced across the Great Lakes and glacial lakes of the Upper Midwest. Just like the craftsmen who built those boats, the guys are committed to creating a hand-crafted spirit that will leave you nodding in approval. We offer on-site tasting and sales and tours of the distillery.
