The Oglala Lakota Nation and the Pine Ridge Chamber of Commerce and our partners proudly introduce the creation of the Oglala Lakota Living History Village, an entry point to the beautiful landscape and the past and present culture and indigenous knowledge of Lakota Country. Come hear our Lakota voices, our Lakota stories…told by our Lakota people. Learn to see the movement of the land, you’ll learn to understand the movement of the people. Make time for history at the Old Courthouse Museum in downtown Sioux Falls. This beautifully-restored 1800s quartzite building has three floors of regional history exhibits. The Museum Store includes unique and affordable Dakota-made gifts for the whole family. See our website or Facebook page for current exhibits and programs. The Old Courthouse Museum is a Siouxland Heritage Museum (along with the Pettigrew Home and Museum). We are open seven days a week and our hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and Friday; 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday; and 12-5 p.m., Sunday. Fort Meade was a military post from 1878 until 1944. Originally established to protect miners and settlers traveling in the area, it played a major role in maintaining peace on the western Dakota frontier. Today, the Old Fort Meade Museum, on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Hospital just east of Sturgis, is located in the former commanding officer's headquarters and offers an in-depth history of Fort Meade. The museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, mid-May to the end of September.Old Lumber Company Grill and Bar
