The Prairie Mermaid brings out the best of your fasionista self in downtown Brookings. This local boutique features clothing and accessories for women, as well as some home decor items. Their clothing is constantly being updated, so you’re sure to find something new the next time you stop by. In addition, our local art scene thrives, giving artists a place to sell their unique pieces. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Located in the heart of pheasant country in northeastern South Dakota, Prairie Ridge Lodge offers access to free public hunting grounds in every direction from our lodge. We also have other great recreational possibilities, such as waterfowl and deer hunting, as well as some of the best fishing in the area - all right outside our door! Our lodge is all on one floor and has eight, suite-sized units. There is a spacious gathering room available, with a big screen TV. With 40 restored historic buildings, agricultural displays, a steam carousel and an operating railroad, Prairie Village invites you to discover the unexpected. Venture two miles west of Madison on South Dakota Highway 34 near Lake Herman and you will find history to explore, daily carousel rides and train rides every Saturday at 2 p.m. We are open daily from early May to early September; 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays. We offer 270 camp sites (with electricity).
Press Start is a vintage arcade combined with a bar. Located in downtown Rapid City, the barcade has nearly 100 games on its floor at a time. From pinball and Skee Ball to classic video games like Joust, Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat, Press Start will bring a feeling of nostalgia with its retro games to play while enjoying a beer or cocktail. The hours are 4 p.m.-12 a.m., Monday through Friday; 11 a.m.-2 a.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday.
The Pringle Mercantile is a local diner and convenience store offering snacks, drinks, beer, ice, homemade lunches and local finds. Stop by when you are in the southern Black Hills.
One of Deadwood’s unique attractions, a coffee shop-deli and glass blowing studio, offers hot glass demonstrations and classes. A variety of handblown glass pieces are for sale. Espresso, soft drinks, coffee, tea, beer, pastries, sandwiches, wraps and breakfast items are available. The menu items pay homage to retro Texaco station, including sandwiches like the Spark Plug, Lug Nut, and Monkey Wrench. Enjoy your meal while watching breathtaking glass pieces created right before your eyes.
The Purple Cow Ice Cream Parlor is an ice cream shop located in Waubay in northeastern South Dakota. It is a perfect place to stop after a day of fishing, boating, or just a day at the lake with the family. We are open seasonally. Our current hours can be found on our Facebook page.
Putters and Scoops is Huron’s hidden secret nestled atop Ravine Lake Park. We offer a lunch menu of healthy sandwiches and green salads, along with SDSU ice cream available in 16 hand dipped flavors, fresh baked pie, coffee and fruit smoothies. Activities include an 18-hole mini golf course, paddleboats, kayaks, bicycles, flower gardens located on Izaak Walton Island, picnic shelters and basketball courts. We are located on the City of Huron bike and walking trail system. Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m., daily (May through August).
