Union Grove State Park

Public art thrives in the alleyways of downtown Brookings. The Urban Canvas consists of seven murals, five of which were created by artist, Robbie Jelsma. The sixth was a collaboration with SDSU art students and artist Molly Wicks. The seventh was created in the fall of 2019 by Pandr Design Company from San Diego, incorporating local elements. The mural is part of the South Dakota Department of Tourism’s “State of Create” campaign. Valley View Country Club (VVCC) is located in northeastern South Dakota, four miles west of Sisseton on SD Highway 10. Its name depicts the beautiful, commanding view of the valley to the east. VVCC is a 9-hole course with a superior rating. It has watered fairways and lush greens throughout the golfing season, and it features 3,174 yards and a slope rating of 113. It is open to non-members. Food and beverages are available at the new clubhouse (closed during winter months).Verendrye Museum
The Verendrye Museum in Fort Pierre is named for Louis and Chevalier Verendrye, two French brothers who explored the upper reaches of the Missouri River. The museum is located in the old American Legion Hall, a 1930s vintage building owned by the City of Fort Pierre. It houses a collection of South Dakota and regional artifacts documenting the early history of the area. It is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday from late May through early September.Verendrye Site and Monument
The Verendrye Site and Monument sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Fort Pierre. It is one of only a few verifiable sites associated with the first Europeans to explore the northern Great Plains region. Frenchman Pierre Gaultier De La Verendrye and his sons explored the interior of North America in the 18th century. In 1743, the brothers buried a lead plate. It was discovered by high school students in 1913 and is now on display at the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre.Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Co.
