Delmont Kuchen Festival & Twin Rivers Old Iron Harvest Festival
Delmont's annual Kuchen Festival will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025. The German pastry 'kuchen' is also the official state dessert of South Dakota. Kuchen will be sold at the Legion Hall, starting at 8:30 a.m. until gone. The Onion House, the Pumphouse Museum and the jail will be open for tours. The Twin Rivers Old Iron Harvest Festival, 1/4-mile west of Delmont, takes place September 13-14, 2025.Fort Sisseton Lantern Tour

Join us for a night tour around Fort Sisseton Historic State Park where the history of Fort Sisseton and ghost stories are tangled together. 2025 dates are May 31, June 28 and July 26. Join us for a stroll around the grounds of Fort Sisseton Historic State Park while learning about the Greek mythology and Dakota stories of the stars. Afterwards join us for a campfire and some yummy s'mores. Sturdy shoes are required, walking will occur over uneven our rough terrain. Backstory: While touring Fort Sisseton, you started to get bored and noticed that the door to the hopsital was open whie the tour guide wasn't looking. You and your friends quickly sneak in to explore. But the door is now locked and there seems to be no way out until you figure out the clues and puzzles. Can you do it? Tickets to this event can be purchased by calling Fort Sisseton. This event is not recommended for young children. Dates and times are August 1, 4-9 p.m.; August 2, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and August 3, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. A park entrance license is also required.Porterchela
Enjoy a beautiful scenic hike on rolling-hill scenery among more than 60 pieces of displayed art/sculptures and listen to live music performances at the best kept secret in South Dakota, the Porter Sculpture Park. Taking place about 25 miles west of Sioux Falls along Interstate 90, the Porterchela Music & Art Walk Festival's hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Festival admission is free and you're encouraged to bring your own lawn chair. The Heritage Hall Museum & Archives is a cultural hub that celebrates and shares the history of the larger Freeman community. Our collection tells the story of the Germans-from-Russia immigrants who arrived in southeastern Dakota Territory starting in the 1870s. Our two exhibit halls and four historical buildings include thousands of artifacts that tell the story of the settlers who came from Amish, Hutterite, Lutheran, Reformed and Mennonite faith traditions. Our archives are filled with thousands of photos, documents and books available for research. We are open year-round, with our seasonal hours being 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, in the summer (May-September), and 12-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the winter (October-April).Wheelin' to Wall
The rugged beauty of the Badlands draws visitors from around the world. These striking geologic deposits contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancient mammals such as the rhino, horse and saber-toothed cat once roamed here. The park’s 244,000 acres protect mixed-grass prairie where bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs and black-footed ferrets live today. This cycling event held in Badlands National Park offers a choice of six rides: pavement 31 miles, pavement 38 miles, gravel 35 miles and gravel 64 miles, plus pavement 28 miles (Sunday) and gravel 33 miles (Sunday). Experience an old west shootout aboard the 1880 Train this summer. Dates for 2025 are June 8, 15, 22 and 29; July 6, 13, 20 and 27; and August 17 and 31. The shootout begins at the Hill City station, 5 p.m. round trip departure. A few bad guys board the train and hide their treasure. The train is stopped by cowboys and “held up” halfway between Hill City and Keystone. It's a good thing the sheriff is in town!
