The Journey Museum in Rapid City brings together five major prehistoric and historic collections to tell the complete story of the Western Great Plains - from the perspective of the Lakota people and their unique Native American history, and the pioneers who shaped its past, to the scientists who now study it. The museum proudly houses many permanent collections, including the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology collection, the South Dakota Archeological Research Center collection, the Sioux Indian Museum collection, and the Black Hills Historical Society’s Pioneer Collection. We hope to reconnect people to their past and inspire life-long learning by offering special programming, research, curated art displays, and easy-to-access digital archives. We believe knowledge and stories about our heritage can re-energize a community and be a stimulus for empathy and connection to place. Our hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m., Sunday.

For the general public, we are a place to horseback ride, jump in a lake, take a riding lesson, visit an 1880’s town, get married, stay in a themed hotel room, hold your next corporate event, camp out, eat something delicious, and much more. Located along the Missouri River below Fort Randall Dam and south of Pickstown, the Karl E. Mundt National Wildlife Refuge is managed to provide habitat for bald eagles. This Refuge’s story began in 1967, when a biologist counted 283 bald eagles wintering in this area. At the time, the bald eagle populations outside of Alaska were declining rapidly. In 1974, the National Wildlife Federation donated these lands to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the first national wildlife refuge for bald eagles was established. Today, the Refuge protects one of the last remnants of natural habitat along the Missouri River, and it benefits more than bald eagles. During spring and summer, the woods are alive with the calls, songs, and striking colors of woodland birds. To protect the eagles from disturbance, the Refuge itself is closed to visitors. A kiosk below the Fort Randall Dam on the west bank of the Missouri River provides excellent viewing of the eagles in their natural territory. The Refuge is part of the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge Complex.
Karttrax Family Fun Park is a family-owned and operated five-acre facility that has been providing fun to the Yankton area since 1986. We strive to provide family entertainment in a Christian-based atmosphere for the purpose of strengthening family unity. We are open seasonally and weather permitting. Käsemeister Creamery is a farm-to-table creamery located southeast of Frankfort. Our products are raised and produced here on our farm. We only use our own Grade A milk for our cheeses. We produce cheddar, colby, gouda and other cheese varieties, as well as more than a dozen flavored cheeses, quark, dry cottage cheese, and honey. Visit our retail shop to sample our delicious cheeses. Hour retails hours are 9-11:15 a.m. and 12:45-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday.
