Prairie Village Hobo Marlin Pumpkin Train
Head to Prairie Village west of Madison for Hobo Marlin's Pumpkin Train. Ride the train to the Pumpkin Patch where children (ages 12 and under) can pick a pumpkin from the patch. The event runs 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. and also includes donuts, cider and games. Admission is $5 per child (ages 12 and under) and $2 per adult/teen. Proceeds benefit the Prairie Village Herman & Milwaukee Railroad. (Prairie Village season passes not accepted.) The Rock The Country music festival - A Festival For We The People - will be coming to Sioux Falls, July 18-19, as the major country festival makes its official road trip across America. With the country and rock genres joining forces, Rock The Country will be rocking the country all summer long. Start time is 8:30 a.m. and registration is $25.
Silver City Social
The annual Silver City Social includes a Pie and Ice Cream Social with Sloppy Joes, a Volksmarch (the second-largest sanctioned march in the Black Hills), and a raffle. It takes place at the Silver City Historical Schoolhouse near Pactola Lake. (From SD Highway 44, turn north 1.5 miles on US Highway 385, then take a left on Silver City Road and go five miles to the schoolhouse.) Proceeds support the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department and Silver City Historical Society. All are welcome.Sioux Falls Canaries Home Season
The legacy of professional baseball in Sioux Falls dates back to 1902. The current Sioux Falls Canaries team, as it is known today, began playing in 1993 and has been a staple of entertainment for families and baseball fans alike. Since their inception, the Canaries have made their home at The Birdcage. This historic ballpark combines the classic charm of its original design with modern updates, including renovations in the late 1990s and a more recent upgrade in 2022. The event takes place 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. at Levitt at the Falls north of downtown Sioux Falls. This is a great, free, family-friendly event you won't want to miss. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, crafts and kids activities. The Sioux Falls Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and Miracle 5K on a Sunday in September. Join runners from across the nation on a journey through Downtown Sioux Falls and Falls Park, along one of the nation's finest bike trails, and through the historic district. The Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K start and finish inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The Miracle 5K finishes inside the PREMIER Center, but starts outside on Western Avenue. There will be entertainment along the race route and lots of spectators cheering on the runners.Sizzlin' Summer Nights

The annual Festival of Books is South Dakota's premier literary event. It is held each year in the fall, alternating between eastern locations and western locations. The festival celebrates reading, writing and the humanities with locally-known and nationally-recognized authors. The 2025 event - the 23rd anniversary - is set to take place in Spearfish.
