Based in Rapid City, the owner of Black Hills Contraband Distillery has turned a seven-generation family recipe into reality by producing flavored liqueur in South Dakota. Contraband flavored liqueurs have been perfected from generation to generation. In 2016, Contraband became the first licensed full distillery in South Dakota. Today, we produce 14 flavors, including Smooth Bourbon, Black Satin, Black Fire and more. Visit us 12-10 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 12-11 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and 12-8 p.m., Sunday.
Black Hills Dakota Distiller, founded in April 2010, is the first legal distillery in the Black Hills area. We are a startup artisan distillery located outside of Sturgis, just northwest of Rapid City. Our goal is to produce the finest handcrafted spirits possible using South Dakota-grown ingredients. Our spirits are produced on a small batch level, which flows off our still at a rate of gallons per hour not hundreds of gallons per minute. Our hours are 2-6 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Family-owned and operated, the Black Hills Diner is located in Belle Fourche in the northern Black Hills. We serve breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. Art Glass is blown and lampworked on location at this gallery/studio near Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Pete and Gail blow glass gathered from a furnace to create colorful vases, bowls, goblets, paperweights and more. They also use a torch to lampwork intricate figurines including animals, ships, motorcycles and caketops. A wide variety of styles and price ranges are available daily during tourism season (part-time off-season). All purchases are packaged to travel or mail.
Black Hills Helicopters, Inc. offers helicopter tours of the unique geological outcropping that are the Black Hills of South Dakota. This geological anomaly made for the perfect location to create the world's largest sculptures: Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Crazy Horse Memorial. Take a few minutes to see a different perspective and experience the unforgettable sensation of helicopter flight and the vertical world. Our heliport is located near Keystone. Our season runs May through October.
The Black Hills Inn and Suites, located in Historic Deadwood, has a peaceful creekside setting. With its affordable rates, this non-smoking property includes three creekside suites, one junior suite, plus 42 regular rooms, with either one queen bed or two double beds. Amenities include an indoor pool, hot tub, and a light continental breakfast. Dishes and cooking utensils are available upon request. It is only a short trolley ride to downtown Deadwood. The Institute has been the leader in paleontological excavations and preparation since 1974, helping supply museums and collectors professionally-prepared fossils and cast replicas. Our facility also includes the Museum of the Black Hills Institute, a natural history museum, and Everything Prehistoric, our gift shop. We are open year-round. Located in the mile-high city of Lead, the Black Hills Mining Museum is dedicated to the preservation of the rich mining heritage of the Black Hills. We invite you to visit us and enjoy our numerous exhibits and activities that are educational and fun and cleverly depict our mining heritage. We offer a simulated underground gold mine tour that takes you through the history of mining and shows 125 years of changes. We are open daily, May-September, and by reservation during the rest of the year.
