When you visit Badlands National Park, you'll find dining options in the small towns of Wall and Interior. You’ll find delicious options perfect for fueling up before or after a day exploring the park and the surrounding Black Hills. Note that some smaller establishments may have seasonal hours outside of the peak summer months. It's always a good idea to check operating hours in advance.
Wall Restaurants
Located a short drive north of the park’s northeast entrance, Wall is the larger of the two small towns near the Badlands. You'll find a greater variety here, ranging from casual restaurants to establishments offering a more formal dining experience.
- Wall Drug Cafe: This popular cafe is part of the iconic Wall Drug Store. It's known for its classic American comfort food, including their legendary hot beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy, buffalo burgers, and their famous homemade donuts and 5-cent coffee. It's a large, family-friendly establishment with an expansive Western Art Gallery to explore while you dine.
- Badlands Saloon & Grille: This locally owned restaurant features a range of comfort food, including hearty burgers, steaks and pizza. They focus on fresh ingredients and family recipes.
- Salty Steer: The Salty Steer is one of Wall’s newer establishments, offering a modern and inviting ambiance. Their menu includes burgers, steaks, pasta and local craft beer, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
- Red Rock Restaurant & Lounge: Specializing in locally raised meat, the Red Rock Restaurant & Lounge prides itself on farm-to-table freshness. The menu offers generous portions and decadent desserts in a spacious, welcoming environment.
Interior Restaurants
Interior, South Dakota, is the closest town to the main section of Badlands National Park. Your primary and most convenient dining options within or immediately adjacent to the park are:
- Cedar Pass Restaurant (at Cedar Pass Lodge): This is the only restaurant located inside Badlands National Park. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a focus on local and regionally sourced dishes. The most famous menu item is the Sioux Indian Taco, a large, fluffy fry bread topped with refried beans, buffalo meat (or a vegetarian option), lettuce, tomato, cheese and olives. It’s a must-try for a unique local experience. The restaurant also offers burgers, buffalo chili and some lighter options. Spectacular views of the Badlands spires from the restaurant are a bonus.
- Cowboy Corner: A convenience store with a café that serves lunch and occasionally dinner on weekends. It’s the perfect quick stop at the intersection of highways 377 and 44 during a busy day at the park. Check their Facebook page for the daily menu item.
