Back by popular demand is the Fort Sisseton Escape Room, August 1-3, 2025. Backstory: While touring Fort Sisseton, you started to get bored and noticed that the door to the hopsital was open whie the tour guide wasn't looking. You and your friends quickly sneak in to explore. But the door is now locked and there seems to be no way out until you figure out the clues and puzzles. Can you do it? Tickets to this event can be purchased by calling Fort Sisseton. This event is not recommended for young children. Dates and times are August 1, 4-9 p.m.; August 2, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and August 3, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. A park entrance license is also required.
Wonder what a military Fort looks like in lantern light? Join us for a night tour around Fort Sisseton Historic State Park where the history of Fort Sisseton and ghost stories are tangled together. 2025 dates are May 31, June 28 and July 26. Park entrance license is required.
More than 200 unique quilts will be showcased at the Hill City Quilt & Fiber Arts Show. Vendors will share everything that is new and exciting in quilting, along with demonstrations and trunk shows. Held at the Hill City High School, the show hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $7 at the door. Calling all K9s! We invite all dogs to compete in this exciting winter race, the K9 Keg Pull. Man’s best friend will be assigned a division based on their weight. Dogs will wear a harness attached to an appropriately sized keg to pull past the finish line. The fastest dogs in each class win. The races will take place on Deadwood Street by Outlaw Square. Registration is on site, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Races begin at 1 p.m.
Kool Deadwood Nites brings car lovers together for six days full of classic cars, classic music and classic fun. It is a 1950s and 1960s sock hop - Deadwood style. There is a parade, a show and shine, the Deadwood Rod Run, a classic car competition, and free concerts on Main Street featuring the biggest names in rock 'n roll history.
The annual Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant in De Smet is an outdoor theater experience. Join us as we celebrate the Ingalls family and De Smet’s early history. Our outdoor prairie stage over looks cottonwood trees planted by Charles and the Big Slough. Seating is provided, but lawn chairs are welcome (jackets and/or blankets are recommended). The gates open at 6 p.m. and the performance begins at 8 p.m. All seating is general admission. The show does not sell out and we do not turn guests away. The Evening Lighting Ceremony at Mount Rushmore National Memorial is held beginning the Friday before Memorial Day through September 30 each year. From May through early August, the ceremony starts nightly at 9 p.m., and from early August through September 30, it starts nightly at 8 p.m. From October through May, there is no ceremony, but the sculpture is illuminated nightly at sunset. Free live music starts at 6:30 p.m. each week and features local and regional acts of all styles and genres. Cruise over to Mitchell for an evening jam-packed with excitement for the whole family. The free Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party will take place on Mitchell’s Main Street from 5-10 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the start of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Community members and motorcyclists from across the nation are invited to a night of fun with food vendors, stunt shows and live music. Vendors and a beverage garden will be available from 5-10 p.m.
