Located at 22nd Avenue S and 32nd Street S on the southern edge of Brookings, the Dakota Nature Park and its Larson Nature Center are primarily for the use of programs and activities sponsored or affiliated with the Brookings Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department. The area is open year-round to use for activities such as fishing, canoeing/kayaking, bird-watching, hiking, biking and picnics, as well as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Located 30 miles west of Sioux Falls and just south of Montrose, Porter Sculpture Park was established in 2000. It is an outdoor sculpture park that is visited by tourists from all over the world. There are more than 50 sculptures illustrating the artist's unique view. The tallest sculpture – a bull’s head – is 60 feet tall and weighs 25 tons (the second tallest is the 40-foot horse, weighing in at 40 tons). They can be seen from Interstate 90. The park is open daily, 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m., May 15 through October 15.Pagination
