This celebration of Native American music, art, and culture begins at 10 a.m. and offers a full day of performances, activities, and creative experiences. More than two dozen of the top cowboys in the nation will be matched up against some of the best bucking stock in the Midwest at the Annual Casey Tibbs Match of Champions. Bronc riding, steak fry and entertainment will be held at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre. The Dakota Angler Ice Institute was started in 2008 to give ice fishermen an opportunity to see the latest and greatest in the ice fishing industry and to learn from the experts how to use the equipment. Throughout the years, the Ice Institute has a had a number of professors share their knowledge. A few of those have included the "Godfather" of ice fishing - Dave Genz, Jason Mitchell, Chip Leer, Brad Hawthorne, Dennis Kassube, Brian Brosdahl, and many, many more. You'll be able to see all the latest and greatest in the ice fishing world, including portable and permanent ice shacks, augers, electronics, as well as plenty of jigs and lures. Held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center & Arena, admission is $7 per day, or get a weekend pass for $15. Hours are 3-9 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday.Danish Days
Danish Days in Viborg has a long and rich history dating back to Viborg’s earliest days. Originally celebrated on June 5th to coincide with Denmark’s independence day, the celebration has been moved to the third weekend in July. Although the dates have changed, the spirit has remained the same. We still host many of the same events that our founding fathers did such as a parade, community worship service, ball tournaments, dances, and ethnic food. Join us in Hot Springs in the southern Black Hills for three days of fun. Balloon launches are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, about 6 a.m., from the Hot Springs Municipal Airport. Events begin on Friday at noon and there are activities throughout downtown including a vendors market, magic show, balloon animals, face painters and live music at 5 p.m. Saturday features a kids parade, vendors market, chalk art contest, sidewalk sales, and special events at local businesses. Saturday evening, a “Light Up Downtown” night glow will be held at Centennial Park and the State Veterans Home from 7:30-9 p.m. Events are dependent on weather. Admission to events is free. Experience the annual organized fall hike up the world's largest mountain carving-in-progress, Crazy Horse Memorial. The 10K (6.2-mile) route, round-trip, takes up to four hours to complete, with hikers setting their own pace. The terrain is hilly and rough with some steep inclines. Starting time is anytime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. (registration begins at 7 a.m.) There is also a Spring Volksmarch which takes place in early June. Volksmarches are held as weather permits. Admission for hikers will be waived with three cans of food. The American Volkssport Association's hike fee is $4 for each participant regardless of age. Regular Memorial admission applies to non-hikers.First Dakota Classic Archery Tournament
The National Field Archery Association is hosting the Annual First Dakota Classic Archery Tournament in Yankton. The First Dakota Classic is an indoor distance tournament and offers head-to-head competition after the qualification rounds. This challenging and unique tournament features archers from around the world—including professionals and Olympians—who travel to Yankton to compete in this three-day competition.
