Hill City Quilt & Fiber Arts Show
More than 200 unique quilts will be showcased at the Hill City Quilt & Fiber Arts Show. Vendors will share everything that is new and exciting in quilting, along with demonstrations and trunk shows. Held at the Hill City High School, the show hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $7 at the door. Nestled in the Badlands of South Dakota in the tiny town of Interior, with a population of just over 60 and located just south of the National Park surrounded by prairie and ranches for miles, the sounds of cheering spectators can be heard near and far as some of the best cowboys and cowgirls on the pro rodeo circuit take part in South Dakota's oldest rodeo, the Interior Frontier Days Rodeo. The PRCA Rodeo performance takes place at 5 p.m. on Saturday and a Ranch Rodeo performance is held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, both at the Interior Rodeo Grounds. Tickets may be purchased online. The Irene Rodeo Association hosts the annual SDRA-sanctioned Irene Rodeo the last Friday and Saturday of June each year. Events include youth mini bulls and broncs, broncs, barrels, team penning, team roping, bulls, calf roping, and mutton bustin’ (for ages 5-8). Rodeo performances are at 7 p.m. Friday night and 6 p.m. Saturday night. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Junkin’ Market Days is a two-day, indoor market in Sioux Falls that is filled with repurposed, rustic, shabby chic, farmhouse, vintage & one-of-a-kind finds. Vendors from all over the state of South Dakota and beyond bring in the coolest pieces to the Exhibit Hall at the Ramkota Convention Center. Calling all K9s! We invite all dogs to compete in this exciting winter race, the K9 Keg Pull. Man’s best friend will be assigned a division based on their weight. Dogs will wear a harness attached to an appropriately sized keg to pull past the finish line. The fastest dogs in each class win. The races will take place on Deadwood Street by Outlaw Square. The annual Kadoka Buffalo Stampede Rodeo is held each year in late June. On Friday and Saturday nights, there is a PRCA/WPRA rodeo featuring bareback riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, ladies breakaway roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and bull riding. The Buffalo Stampede Ranch Rodeo takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday night. Friday morning, there is steer tripping at 10 a.m.. Saturday morning there is timed event slack at 10 a.m., and, Saturday night, a dance is held downtown under the tent. Event admission is $20 at the gate. There is no admission for kids 12 and under. The annual Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant in De Smet is an outdoor theater experience. Join us as we celebrate the Ingalls family and De Smet’s early history. Our outdoor prairie stage over looks cottonwood trees planted by Charles and the Big Slough. Seating is provided, but lawn chairs are welcome (jackets and/or blankets are recommended). The gates open at 6 p.m. and the performance begins at 8 p.m. All seating is general admission. The show does not sell out and we do not turn guests away.
