Scavenger's Journey leads you through 15 communities in central South Dakota. It is an approximately 150-mile-long shopping experience consisting of yard sales, organized flea markets, farmer’s markets, specialty shops and more. This one-of-a-kind South Dakota event is brought to you by numerous volunteers and supporters in the towns who make it possible (Plankinton, Stickney, Platte, Geddes, White Lake, Kimball, Pukwana, Chamberlain, Oacoma, Reliance, Presho, Murdo, Midland, Belvidere and Kadoka).
The annual Sidewalk Arts Festival in downtown Sioux Falls is a free, outdoor event with more than 230 vendor booths featuring the region's best fine art, folk art and craft artisans. Enjoy activities for kids, live entertainment, food vendors and more on the streets surrounding the Washington Pavilion. This festival is a fundraiser for the Washington Pavilion of Arts & Science and is the region's largest one-day arts festival. Join us 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The annual Silver City Social includes a Pie and Ice Cream Social with Sloppy Joes, a Volksmarch (the second-largest sanctioned march in the Black Hills), and a raffle. It takes place at the Silver City Historical Schoolhouse near Pactola Lake. (From SD Highway 44, turn north 1.5 miles on US Highway 385, then take a left on Silver City Road and go five miles to the schoolhouse.) Proceeds support the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department and Silver City Historical Society. All are welcome.
The Sioux Empire Arts & Crafts Show features only handcrafted and handmade items by the most talented artists and crafters from across the Midwest. This is the best shopping event of this nature before the holiday season. Holiday music, food trucks and fun for the whole family keep our exhibitors and shoppers coming back year after year. The show fills the entire 100,000+ square foot Expo Building located on the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Because of the huge space we make sure to allow for extra wide aisles. The annual Sioux Empire Fair is the largest fair in South Dakota and the best source for family fun, national headline concerts, carnival rides, commercial displays, and agricultural activities. All centrally located in Sioux Falls at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. The grandstand features top musical entertainment and the Sioux Empire Championship Rodeo. Enjoy sights, sounds and tastes from around the world as we bring all cultures together for a fun day of celebration during the annual Festival of Cultures. The event takes place 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. at Levitt at the Falls north of downtown Sioux Falls. This is a great, free, family-friendly event you won't want to miss. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, crafts and kids activities. The festivities will continue through the evening and include live music beginning at 7 p.m. on the Levitt stage, followed by the parade of flags and a grand finale performance.
The Sioux Falls Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and Miracle 5K on a Sunday in September. Join runners from across the nation on a journey through Downtown Sioux Falls and Falls Park, along one of the nation's finest bike trails, and through the historic district. The Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K start and finish inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The Miracle 5K finishes inside the PREMIER Center, but starts outside on Western Avenue. There will be entertainment along the race route and lots of spectators cheering on the runners.

Travel back in time to the glorious reign of Queen Elizabeth I. See the sights, hear the sounds, and taste the food. Learn what it was like to live over 400 years ago as you take part in our historically flavored festival. The festival takes place at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds/W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Admission at the gate is $15 for adults (13-65), $6 for seniors (65+) and children (4-12), and free for children 3 and under.
SiouxperCon is a fan convention that celebrates several mediums: Comicbooks, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Anime, Board games, and Video gaming. SiouxperCon is dedicated to promoting literacy and valuable life skills in an inclusive and friendly environment. The vision is to engage individuals, cultivating their interest of comics and various popular art forms through workshops, panels, seminars, exhibitions and hosting conventions. Join in the fun at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Admission: Tickets are available online and range from $10 to $150. The 10th anniversary will be celebrated in 2025.
This wacipi is the oldest powwow in South Dakota and the second oldest in the nation (started in 1867). This social gathering of family and friends to observe and enjoy Native American culture is held at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Ceremonial Grounds in Agency Village (seven miles south of Sisseton). Concessions, vendors and some bleacher seating are available. Activities include a walk/run, softball tournament and an adult/youth rodeo. Powwow Grand Entry information to be posted when available. All are welcome to attend. Purchase a wrist band for the weekend. Children aged five and under are free and so are adults aged 55 and over.
