Scavenger's Journey leads you through 15 communities in central South Dakota. It is an approximately 150-mile-long shopping experience consisting of yard sales, organized flea markets, farmer’s markets, specialty shops and more. The annual Sidewalk Arts Festival in downtown Sioux Falls is a free, outdoor event with more than 230 vendor booths featuring the region's best fine art, folk art and craft artisans. The annual Silver City Social includes a Pie and Ice Cream Social with Sloppy Joes, a Volksmarch (the second-largest sanctioned march in the Black Hills), and a raffle. It takes place at the Silver City Historical Schoolhouse near Pactola Lake. (From SD Highway 44, turn north 1.5 miles on US Highway 385, then take a left on Silver City Road and go five miles to the schoolhouse.) The show fills the entire 100,000+ square foot Expo Building located on the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Because of the huge space we make sure to allow for extra wide aisles. The event takes place 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. at Levitt at the Falls north of downtown Sioux Falls. This is a great, free, family-friendly event you won't want to miss. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, crafts and kids activities. The Sioux Falls Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and Miracle 5K on a Sunday in September. Join runners from across the nation on a journey through Downtown Sioux Falls and Falls Park, along one of the nation's finest bike trails, and through the historic district. The Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K start and finish inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The Miracle 5K finishes inside the PREMIER Center, but starts outside on Western Avenue. This wacipi is the oldest powwow in South Dakota and the second oldest in the nation (started in 1867). This social gathering of family and friends to observe and enjoy Native American culture is held at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Ceremonial Grounds in Agency Village (seven miles south of Sisseton). Concessions, vendors and some bleacher seating are available. Activities include a walk/run, softball tournament and an adult/youth rodeo. Powwow Grand Entry information to be posted when available.
