The Fourth of July holiday at Lake Mitchell is always a cause for celebration, and everyone, young and old, participates in the fun. Come out for beautiful fireworks starting at sunset (approximately 9:30-10:30 p.m.). Head about four miles north/northwest of Mitchell for this free annual event.
Spice up your day and join us at Watertown's Bramble Park Zoo for the KXLG Community Chili Cook-off. The day features the chili contest, music, and awards. There is reduced admission: $5 for ages 3 and up (or LAZS membership) and $3 for a wristband to taste the chili and vote for your favorite. The Zoo is open to visitors from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., chili tasting beginning at 12 p.m.
Kick off your summer with a weekend of family fun this June in Lake Andes. Fish Days hosts the DC Lynch Carnival all three days, as well as lawn mower races, dart tournament, parade, kids games, fish fry, street dance, motorcycle blessing and more. Head to Lake Norden for two days of fun. On July 3, enjoy the annual Community Barbecue and live music (5-7 p.m.), as well as bouncy houses, balloon art, equipment display and more family-friendly activities. On July 4, the annual Triathlon starts at 9 a.m., and later in the day, starting at 7 p.m., is the Lake Norden Lakers baseball game, followed by one of the largest fireworks displays in the area.
Leading Ladies & Dakota Spirit offer the fastest marathon course in South Dakota. There is no better place to log miles than in the scenic beauty of Spearfish Canyon. The course departs from the Lead Country Club and follows a gentle, downhill, 26.2-mile journey to Spearfish through Spearfish Canyon. Distance options include full marathon, half-marathon, 10K and marathon relay. Runners are required to register. (Spectators are free.)
Enjoy the 39th Annual Menno Pioneer Power Show featuring steam threshing, plowing, baling, corn shelling, historic jail, sod house, 1884 schoolhouse, railway depot with sidecar, blacksmith shop, farm emporium, bread baked in a stone Russian oven and more. Activities for all ages: parade, children's pedal pull, rides and petting zoo, crafts, flea market, bale throwing, tractor pull and mini-rod pull. This juried Indigenous art show and cultural celebration is a free annual event in the heart of downtown Rapid City at Main Street Square each July. Native POP features original artwork for sale by established and emerging Great Plains Native artists, a fashion show and a full day of cultural performances. The event furthers intercultural dialogue through this annual Native art market and celebration. 2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the event.
Each year, Lennox hosts their Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration. The multi-day events includes everything from craft and food vendors in the park, a street dance with live music, a car show, a street dance, Firecracker Fun Run, a parade on July 4, as well as an outdoor band concert and fireworks display at dusk.
