McCrory Gardens
McCrory Gardens includes a 25-acre Botanical Garden and a 45-acre Arboretum on the South Dakota State University campus in Brookings. The Arboretum is free and open from dawn to dusk. It is also pet-friendly. The Botanical Garden has entrance fees of $4 (ages 16 and up) and $2 (ages 6-15); ages 5 and under are free, so are SDSU students and McCrory Garden members. There is also an Education and Visitor Center which hosts events, meetings, banquets, weddings, lectures and conferences year-round.McCrossan Boys Ranch
We welcome you to visit the Robert L. Nielsen Visitor Center located at the main entrance of McCrossan Boys Ranch just northwest of Sioux Falls. The Center is free and open to the public. If you’re a history buff or if you’re curious to see the progress that has been made at McCrossan Boys Ranch for the boys and staff over the last six+ decades, the Center’s museum area is for you. McDonald Mountain Ranch is located on historic property in the heart of the Black Hills near Keystone. We are situated in the trees on 20 acres of serenity. Mount Rushmore is right “up the road” via Iron Mountain Road and Custer State Park is just “down the road,” about two miles away. Each of the two rental units has cooking facilities, private baths and private decks. Located in Mitchell in southeastern South Dakota, the mission of the McGovern Library is to provide access to reliable sources of information to the Dakota Wesleyan University community in support of strong teaching and learning; robust information literacy among members of the community; and independent learning, research, and scholarship. The Dakota Wesleyan University Archives are housed on the second floor of the library and are home to the Senator George McGovern Collections which contain photographs, 1972 presidential campaign memorabilia, personal and political files and papers, manuscripts, and more. Located in Watertown, the Mellette House was built in 1885 by Arthur Calvin Mellette. He was the last Governor of Dakota Territory and the first Governor of South Dakota. The Mellette Memorial Association has restored this home to its former beauty. The original furnishings, family portraits and heirlooms given by the Mellette family make this historic spot unique in the Midwest. We are open 1-5 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday, May 1-October 1.
