The Canton Open Air Market features homemade crafts, jewelry and baked goods, as well as produce and locally-roasted coffee. Different food trucks and musicians are featured each week. Held in Jack Fox Park 5-8 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month, May through August.
Head to the Spearfish City Park for the annual summer Canyon Acoustic Series in Spearfish. Held on Wednesday nights in June and July, the series features free music, local food trucks, and more. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 8:30 p.m. The 2025 dates are June 11, 18 and 25, and July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
Castlewood Days brings the community together to celebrate small town life. Held annually the second weekend in August in Castlewood in northeastern South Dakota, this festival offers fun and entertainment for all ages. Events throughout the weekend and around town include a kiddie bike parade, bean bag tournament, 5K color walk/run, car show, tractor show, parade, inflatables, food vendors, a street dance and more. Celebrate Sisseton is an annual three-day event featuring stage entertainment, food and craft vendors, displays, a street dance, a pancake breakfast and a parade on Sunday. These are just a few of the events included in this fun-filled family weekend for all ages. This is also the alumni weekend in Sisseton featuring class gatherings and an all-school banquet. Saturday, June 21, 2025, marks Farm Life Creamery's second annual Cheese Fest! Join us to celebrate CHEESE, our customers and June Dairy Month. At the heart of our event is our first Big Cheese Cook-off competition, where cheese must be the star of the entry. Come try all the entries and vote. There will be big prizes for Big Cheese Cook-off winners. Other activities include local vendors, kids' inflatables, live music, a petting farm, games, mini-golf, ice cream and more.
The annual Christmas at the Capitol display in Pierre includes nearly 100 trees that are decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and state government offices. This year's Grand Lighting Ceremony takes place in the rotunda on Tuesday, November 25, at 7 p.m. The 2025 display is then open to the public daily, 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, through Friday, December 26, including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day. Other areas of the Capitol are also decorated for the holiday season, including the Capitol grounds. Admission is free.
The Corn Palace Festival celebrates the annual redecoration of the World’s Only Corn Palace in Mitchell. The tradition of bringing in great entertainment to headline the event continues. Carnival rides, food and specialty vendors, and locals bringing in their best produce to be judged make this an event not to miss. Join in the fun Wednesday-Sunday. Truly the Best Rodeo. No Bull. The Days of '76 Rodeo was named the PRCA Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year four times (1998-2001), the PRCA Midsize Rodeo of the Year 14 times (2004-2017), and the Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year in 2020. It has also held the title of Badlands Circuit Rodeo of the Year 16 times. The Days of '76 Rodeo and Parades are held over five days in late July, with rodeo performances Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (and Saturday afternoon), and free parades on Historic Main Street Deadwood on Friday and Saturday.
Participants can expect to select from 30 different Whiskeys including Rye, Scotch, Irish, Bourbon, Japanese & Canadian at several different locations during Deadwood's Big Whiskey festival. Tickets will get you 15 sample tickets so you can choose what you’d like to sample. Whiskey tasting is from 4-8 p.m. Registration is at Saloon No. 10 from 3-5 p.m. Big Whiskey tickets are limited to 300 participants.
Downtown at Sundown is five weeks of sunshine, live music, cold drinks, local food, and a friendly atmosphere in downtown Brookings. Held July 24, July 31, August 7, August 14 and August 21, 2025, each Thursday night features a different headliner act, while food vendors and retail booths offer a little something for everyone. Bring your friends and bring your family for five nights of pure fun under the sun. Each week kicks off with vendors opening at 5:30 p.m., followed by our headliner band playing at 6 p.m.
