Fall River 4th of July
Fall River 4th of July activities start with the Firecracker Mile/5K/10K (registration starts at 6 a.m.). Then, at 10 a.m. is the parade, followed by the community picnic at 11:30 a.m. and the FireQuacker Duck Race at 1 p.m. Head to Centennial Park for the car show, 12-3 p.m., a Corn Hole Tournament starting at 4 p.m., and another free picnic sponsored by the American Legion also starting at 4 p.m. Finally, at dusk (around 9 p.m.), the city shoots off a display fireworks that you can watch from Butler Park. Come join Hot Springs and be part of our wonderful community for the 4th of July! Come join the Wakpa Ipaksun Dakota Oyate for our annual wacipi, also known as the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe Wacipi. Held annually the third weekend in July, the powwow takes place north of Flandreau off of Highway 13. Campground, with power available, is located next to the powwow grounds. The Food Truck Festival is being held at Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown and it will feature several different food trucks with items for purchase. The festival runs 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and the food trucks will be located around the zoo. Every Presidents' Day weekend in February, Brookings area attractions, businesses and organizations come together as part of Frost Fest to showcase indoor and outdoor activities and things to do in the winter months. Most events are free and open to the public, however some require pre-registration or a small admission fee. The Annual Hugh Glass Rendezvous celebrates the history of frontiersman and fur trader Hugh Glass, who is known far and wide for surviving a grizzly attack at the forks of the Grand River in 1823. Step back in history nearly two centuries and walk upon the site where history was made, where the man became a legend on the banks of the Grand River and Shadehill Reservoir, at Hugh Glass Park. Events include the Rendezvous, a Plein Air Paintout, guided hikes, vendors of period goods and more. Admission: The Hugh Glass Rendezvous committee asks for a free will donation from those attending.
